As a child, summer was often a time of excitement and adventure, filled with endless possibilities for exploration and fun. One of the most memorable aspects of summer was the opportunity to try new things. From learning to swim or ride a bike to trying new foods or visiting new places, the summer months provided the perfect backdrop for taking risks and stepping outside of one’s comfort zone. These experiences not only provided a sense of accomplishment and confidence but also created lasting memories that are cherished for years to come.
As adults, we aren’t afforded the same time and thus the same range of new experiences. We sometimes end up living life as if it were Groundhog Day. And the older we get, the more we get stuck in our ways doing the same things that are comfortable. We lose the ability to practice being courageous.
It takes courage to try new things. Some argue that it is more important to have courage than it is to have confidence. It takes courage to think differently. It takes courage to try something new. It takes courage to step outside of your comfort zone. Confidence is a result of the initial courage it took to take the first step. Stephen King said, “The scariest moment is just before you start. After that, things can only get better.”
Face fear this summer and flex your courage muscle!
