Five Alternatives to January’s Overcrowded Gyms

January 2, 2016 by Lindsay Diven

Avoid Gym

The first few weeks of each New Year brings hundreds of additional people to the gyms. Determined to stick with their New Year’s Resolutions, the majority of non-regular gym goers flock to the treadmills and weights. Gym regulars are bombarded with the additional crowds and gym novices are overwhelmed with the new equipment, classes, and weights.

In an effort to help our neighbors avoid the frustration of overcrowded gyms, while sticking to their weight loss and fitness goals, Nonahood News is providing you with five alternatives to the traditional gym. Each day this week we will feature another alternative.

Alternative #1 – Neighborhood Weight Loss Competition

Nona Brew Crew Biggest Loser

What better way to motivate you to shed those pounds than with a friendly competition that mimic’s the popular TV program, The Biggest Loser. The guys at the Nona Brew Crew are hosting their first annual Biggest Loser contest. The contest begins January 1 and runs through April 7. The person who loses the largest percentage of weight will receive a cash prize!

Official rules from the Nona Brew Crew’s Facebook Event page:

  • Contest is open to all, but all contestants must be 18 or older and complete initial and final weigh-ins at designated times and location.
  • Consult your doctor before beginning any diet, exercise, or weight-loss program.
  • Entry fee: $20
  • Grand prize: All proceeds will be split by the grand prize winner and a local charity.
  • Grand prize will be paid via check.
  • Entrants must pay the entry fee on or before initial weigh-in.
  • Payment can via check made out to Nona Brew Crew, cash or PayPal to BrewNona@gmail.com.
  • Weigh-ins must be performed with shoes off and no overly heavy clothes (i.e. overcoats, etc.) will be allowed.
  • Initial weigh-in must be completed between 1/1/2016 and 1/7/2016.
  • Final weigh-in must be completed between 4/1/2016 and 4/7/2016.
  • Weigh-ins will take place at ‘The Bus Stop’ – 14085 McFadden Ln, Orlando, FL 32827
  • Any contestant found to be cheating will be removed from the contest with no refund.
  • The benevolent dictator for life of the Nona Brew Crew, Rhys Lynn, is exempt from winning. In the unlikely event that he wins, the 2nd place contestant will win the prize.
  • Winner will be determined by calculating % loss of body weight, rounded to a single decimal point (i.e. 5.2%).
  • In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by a round of sudden-death cornhole.
  • Entry fee is nonrefundable.
  • Rules subject to change without notice at the sole discretion of the Nona Brew Crew.
