Orlando Area Figure Skaters To Compete at National Event

July 12, 2022 by Contributing Writer

Six figure skaters from the Orlando area are scheduled to compete in the National Congress of State
Games (NCSG). The competition will take place in and around Des Moines, IA with many events
happening on the campus of Iowa State University. The games kick off on July 27, 2022, and conclude on
July 31, 2022. The six figure skaters are members of the Figure Skating Club of Osceola and their home rink is the Ice Factory of Central Florida located in Kissimmee FL.

The skaters making the trip to Iowa are as follows:
Kayte Brooks, age 7, Orlando/Lake Nona;
Ryan Lipman, age 8, Winter Garden;
Tyler Moore, age 11, Orlando;
Lais Oliveira, age 12, Orlando;
Sophia Orantes, age 14, Orlando/Lake Nona;
Kelsie Soto, age 11, Davenport.

The skaters will compete in Free Style, Compulsory, Jumps, Spins, Solo Dance, Showcase and Step
Sequences events. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each competition.
The NCSG is a membership organization comprised of 37 Summer State Games and 12 Winter State
Games organizations and is a community-based member of the United States Olympic Committee.
Florida has held several Sunshine State Games events throughout 2022. The figure skating competition
was held in Coral Springs, FL in May 2022. State Games competitions include Olympic or Pan American sports such as Basketball, Bowling, Diving, Tennis, Taekwondo, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Road Races, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track and Field, Volleyball etc. as well as a wide variety of local favorites such as Arm-wrestling, Field Hockey, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Mountain Biking and more.

Over 30 state games from across the country serve as qualifying events for the State Games of America.
The Olympic-style competition brings together medalists from other state games. The 2022 State Games
of America will be held in conjunction with the Summer Iowa Games. An estimated 6,000 out of state
athletes are expected to join the nearly 13,000 Iowa Games participants.
