From Vision to Reality: Building Lake Nona’s Future Together

July 16, 2026 by Lake Nona Regional Chamber of Commerce Leave a Comment

Economic development is often measured by new buildings, company announcements or cranes dotting the skyline. But behind every ribbon cutting is something much bigger – people, partnerships and a shared vision for the future.

As I reflected on Orlando Economic Partnership President & CEO Tim Giuliani’s article, “Economic Development in Action: Building Orlando’s Path to 2045,” I couldn’t help but think about how that vision is already unfolding right here in Lake Nona.

We aren’t simply witnessing economic development.

We’re helping to lead it.

Lake Nona has become one of America’s premier innovation communities – a place intentionally designed to bring together healthcare, technology, education, business and quality of life. Planned by Tavistock Development Company, our 17-square-mile community has become a national model for what happens when visionary planning meets collaboration.

Today, Lake Nona is home to global companies like Siemens Energy, Amazon, KPMG, Guidewell Innovation, USTA National Campus and SIMCOM Aviation, alongside hundreds of entrepreneurs and small businesses that fuel our local economy every day. These organizations didn’t choose Lake Nona by chance – they chose a community built for innovation, connectivity and long-term growth.

Economic development isn’t just about attracting Fortune 500 companies.

It’s helping a local entrepreneur open their first business.

It’s supporting restaurants, retailers, nonprofits and professional service firms that create jobs and serve our neighbors.

It’s investing in workforce development so today’s students become tomorrow’s innovators.

And it’s ensuring our small businesses have the relationships and resources they need to thrive.

At the Lake Nona Regional Chamber of Commerce, we have the privilege of supporting businesses at every stage of that journey.

Our community is uniquely positioned for continued success.

According to the U.S. Census, the two primary Lake Nona ZIP Codes – 32827 and 32832 – are home to nearly 54,000 residents. Median household incomes exceed $117,000, and more than half of adults hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, creating one of Central Florida’s most educated and affluent talent pools.

Beyond those impressive demographics, the community itself tells an even more compelling story.

Lake Nona includes:

  • 17 square miles (11,000 acres) of master-planned development.
  • More than 44 miles of trails connecting neighborhoods, parks, schools and businesses.
  • Over 1,000 community events annually that foster connection and strengthen community.
  • 40% of the community preserved as open green space.
  • More than 5,500 homes built since 2005, with continued residential and commercial growth planned.
  • 72% of residents hold at least a four-year degree, and 42% hold graduate degrees.
  • 25% of households earn more than $250,000 annually.
  • A thriving ecosystem centered around health and life sciences, education, aviation, sports performance, hospitality and technology.

Those aren’t just statistics.

They’re evidence that people believe in this community.

Lake Nona has become a living laboratory where new ideas become real-world solutions. From Florida’s first gigabit community and one of the nation’s longest-running autonomous shuttle programs to world-class medical research, sports performance and wellness innovation, our community continues to attract global attention because we aren’t afraid to think differently.

Tim Giuliani wrote that economic development is “not a single project or announcement. It is a sustained effort that shapes the trajectory of an entire region over time.”

I couldn’t agree more.

The Chamber plays an important role in that effort – not by building buildings, but by building relationships.

We connect businesses with customers.

We advocate for our members.

We celebrate entrepreneurs.

We bring together leaders who believe collaboration creates opportunity.

As Lake Nona continues to grow alongside the Orlando 2045 Vision, our greatest advantage won’t simply be our infrastructure or our location.

It will be our people.

Every business that joins the Chamber, every entrepreneur who opens their doors, every resident who chooses to shop locally, and every organization willing to collaborate contributes to the future we’re building together.

Economic development isn’t something that happens to a community.

It’s something a community creates.
