Last weekend, HCA Florida Healthcare hosted a Mini Medical University half-day program for high school juniors and seniors at UCF Lake Nona Hospital, 6700 Lake Nona Blvd., and the HCA Center for Clinical Advancement, 6400 Sanger Rd., both in Orlando.
Mini Medical University is a unique learning experience designed to increase the pipeline of tomorrow’s care professionals by showcasing the many opportunities a career in healthcare offers.
More than 50 students registered for the event, which provided face-to-face classroom interaction with local healthcare heroes, doctors and nurses, who shared their experiences on the front lines.
Attendees visited the simulation lab, learned how to apply a tourniquet, helped a manikin to breathe with a bag-valve mask, witnessed intubating a manikin and how to operate an AED, and practiced hands-on CPR.
The morning ended with a tour of technologically-advanced UCF Lake Nona Hospital, where students were able to go behind the scenes of a full-service, acute-care hospital.

October 13, 2022 at 1:12 pmIs it possible to hold an HCA Mini Medical University for middle school students? It is important for younger students to begin thinking about their career paths even before they enter high school. Upon entering high school they need to decide what courses to take to lead them to a medical career.
I personally, have a grandson in middle school that would greatly benefit from an experience like the HCA Mini Medical University. He is a straight A student who plans to attend UCF [and live with Granny (me) in Laureate Park/Lake Nona]!
