In the true spirit of giving, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida (GICF) is giving thanks to its donors with a token of appreciation.
On Tuesday, Nov. 28 – also known as “Giving Tuesday” – GICF will host a community-wide “Thanks for Giving” event to express gratitude to donors for their role in the mission of “Building Lives That Work.” From open to close (and while supplies last), community members who make a donation at their local Goodwill retail store (9 a.m. – 9 p.m.) or Donation Xpress location (8 a.m. – 7 p.m.) will receive a 10% discount to use during their next shopping visit. Shoes, sneakers, clothes, housewares and small appliance donations are strongly encouraged.
“Our donors are the reason we’re able to make a positive impact in our community,” said Ed Durkee, president and CEO. “Not only do their donated goods serve as affordable treasures to other Goodwill shoppers, but the revenue generated from those sales also funds free community resources, like our job placement services and vocational rehab program. The goal of this event is to show our gratitude to those who are making our mission possible and improving the community with their support.”
GICF directly channels 90% of its annual revenue into programs that enable Central Floridians to secure meaningful employment, achieve personal goals and thrive economically.
In addition to supporting the local community, shopping at Goodwill is a more affordable and sustainable option for holiday gift buying. GICF retail stores are stocked with unique decorations and one-of-a-kind items from accessories and jewelry to games, toys and puzzles for all ages. And while the average Black Friday shopper will save 25% on retail purchases, Goodwill customers can see deeper discounts every day. As an added benefit of shopping at Goodwill, millions of pounds of household goods are diverted from local landfills every year.
