26th ANNUAL STAMP OUT HUNGER!

May 12, 2018

SECOND HARVEST PARTNERS WITH CENTRAL FLORIDA LETTER CARRIERS FOR

26th ANNUAL STAMP OUT HUNGER!

Food Bank Encourages Participation in Nation’s Largest Single-Day Food Drive

WHAT:           On May 12, Central Florida residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods – such as canned soups, pasta and cereal – next to their mailboxes for local letter carriers to collect as part of the 26th annual Stamp Out Hunger!national food drive.

This food drive falls during a particularly critical time for food-insecure families, as children approach summer vacation and will not have access to free or reduced-price meals at school.

The letter carriers will drop the donations off at various post office locations, where they will be sorted by hundreds of Second Harvest volunteers. Second Harvest drivers will then transport the donations to the food bank to be distributed to local individuals and families in need.

Stamp Out Hunger! is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. Last year, local carriers collected approximately 227,977 pounds of non-perishable food for distribution, translating to about 189,981 meals.
