Best Friends in the Nonahood: Julieta – the Dog Who Brought a Village Together!

October 4, 2022 by Patricia Reber

They say “it takes a village” to raise a child. In the case of Julieta, the sweet little Pinscher from Spain, SHE actually brought the village together! Julieta, a six-year-old Miniature Pinscher, belongs to Mike and Olga Hamilton and their sons Michael and David. The Hamiltons traveled from Spain to Florida for a family vacation with Universal Studios being the grand finale of their trip. They were referred to a pet sitter in the Lake Nona community. Julieta had never been left with anyone before and…yes, you guessed it, she packed her dog bones and ran away! The family received the call and had to terminate their plans for Universal Studios – which was

part of their dream vacation. Very unfortunate. Their remaining time was spent looking for Julia. This went on for seven days!

The Hamiltons, along with the help of some absolutely wonderful concerned animal lovers in the Lake Nona Golf Club neighborhood, searched from sunrise to sunset. Neighbors posted on social media, and volunteers rode in golf carts throughout the day and searched with flashlights through the areas at night. The Hamilton family was devastated to think they would return to Spain without their beloved Julieta!

There were several sightings of Julieta searching in yards for water and food, but she quickly slipped anyone’s catch. Poor Julieta was in a new country and scared for sure. FINALLY, with the help of this incredible group of concerned people, Julieta was sighted in Village Walk after this tireless, week-long search. This little blessing survived all this time in the wild. The family immediately went to Village Walk and was reunited with their little Julieta, who clearly developed a problem during her time of survival. Brave indeed.

The family did finally return to Spain with their little joy! Julieta needed surgery on her eye and has since started to return to her alert and happy self. This will surely be a memorable vacation that the Hamiltons will talk about for years! They will forever remember their newfound friends from the Lake Nona Community with gratitude.

Welcome home, Julieta!

Bienvenida a casa, Julieta!
