Local School Encourages Worldwide Peace Through Parade and Buffet

November 10, 2018 by Nicole LaBosco

Nona Park Montessori School offers students experiential, hands-on learning through all five senses, not just through the standard methods of watching, reading or listening. The school also offers “freedom within limits” as it focuses on the development of independence. The children are encouraged to follow their inner drive and meet their own goals through this method. The school also focuses on respecting individual learning styles, teachers acting as guides, protecting the “best” in each child and grouping children in three-year cycles, so the older children may share their knowledge with the younger children.

The school held its first International Parade on Oct. 19. Kids were clad in nation’s colors and costumes that represented what the countries are known for as a way to show the school’s yearning for peace and to raise children “capable of realizing the goal of peace on earth.” Collaboration with children was recognized as one of the most effective ways to bring about peace.

Countries represented included the USA, Italy, Mexico, and France, to name a few. This event had the support of the school staff and several parents, along with about 100 people in attendance. The children adorned costumes of historians and fairytale characters that one would be able to recognize as a member of the appropriate country.

As the children who represented Italy walked down the closed-off parking lot, one would notice a young girl dressed as a gondolier with her signature black and white striped shirt and wide-brimmed hat surrounded by a cut-out gondola. Talk about adorable! Next up was France, which was led by an adult dressed as a mime. Following were little girls clad in princess dresses and boys dressed as French military men, with drawn-on mustaches and berets to complete the look.

Following the International Parade was the International Buffet, with food from every country represented. Mac and cheese, cheeseburgers, and hotdogs represented the USA, while macarons, baguettes, and croissants represented France and so much more.

Nona Park Montessori School is located at 9186 Dowden Road, Orlando, 32827 and you can visit their website: nonaparkmontessorischool.com or call (321) 270-8880 for more information.
