Stamp Out Hunger! with Second Harvest Food Bank

May 11, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Second Harvest is calling on Central Florida residents to open their cupboards to help local families in need. Grab non-perishable food items like canned soups, meats, vegetables and dry goods like pasta, rice and cereal to load up in a sturdy bag and leave by the mailbox. On Saturday, May 11, those bags will be collected by local letter carriers as part of the 27th annual Stamp Out Hunger! food drive.

Each year, donations from this campaign help stock shelves at local food pantries preparing to assist families during the summer break, when children lose access to free or reduced-price meals at school.

Donors should have the bags at the mailbox by 9 a.m. on May 11 so that letter carriers can pick them up on their regular routes. Hundreds of Second Harvest volunteers will sort the food at various post office locations. Drivers will then distribute the collection to Second Harvest’s network of more than 550 feeding partner sites.

Stamp Out Hunger! is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. Last year, local carriers collected approximately 218,000 pounds of non-perishable food for distribution, which translates to about 90,000 meals.
