Wow Air (an Icelandic low-cost carrier operating service between Iceland, Europe and North America) cancelled all flights and ceased operations in late March.
The CEO of Wow Air said “I’m very sorry about this as these are people who have supported us, I’m disappointed not to honor our commitments.” More than 1,000 passengers had been affected by the collapse of Wow Air.
Wow Air was established in November of 2011 by an Icelandic entrepreneur, Skuli Mogensen. They started off by ranking as the seventh best low-cost airline in Europe and was in the top ten for the youngest airline, but the investment did not fall in favor for Wow Air.
Wow Air’s collapse has followed a series of other budget shutdowns for several other airlines, such as Primera Air based out of Denmark, and British airline Flybmi. After the closing of Primera last year, there has been speculation that Norwegian Air could be next.
