Meet Seth Legassick from POOKART. Originally born in 2015, POOKART was a turning point for Seth as he began an entirely new chapter in his artistic career. Take a look at some of the digital art and acrylic paintings that instantly drew our eyes here at Nonahood News.
Nonahood News: What drove you to become an artist?
Seth Legassick: Creativity has followed me my whole life in many forms such as music, photography, innovation, etc. I have spent most of my life working in professional roles, working directly with customers and managing contact centers. When I was laid off from Newell Rubbermaid in 2015, I pursued creating art. The impact things I create have on others is what drove me to get deeper into art as an artist.
NHN: When did you realize creating art was your passion?
SL: Creating anything that gets a positive reaction from people excites me and is the drive behind the energy to create. I am passionate about creating art that can make a difference in people’s lives. Artwork creates the atmosphere, similar to the impacts of music. When I created compilations of music, I created a fun, upbeat, mood-changing listening experience. The artwork I create today is created to do the same thing – catch an eye and impact people differently.
NHN: How often do you find yourself creating art?
SL: I create new art on a daily basis. Even if it is a photo I took, I am always taking my original photo and creating something from scratch. Even though the photo was used for another piece I had sold, you can tell it is a separate piece of artwork that isn’t the same and allows me to create unique artwork from photos. When I paint to canvas, I just go for it. I normally create multiple pieces; that drove me to start painting in the first place. I have ideas of color that I put down with paint!
NHN: How long did it take you to discover yourself as an artist?
SL: It took me over 40 years to realize I have the talent to be an artist. When I was growing up in middle school, I would draw rollercoasters with a pencil, making many of them. I love technology and space, types of sculptures and transportation. I wanted to be a pilot because I was just fascinated with the commercial airplane. Technology leads me in the directions my art goes. I always embrace using new apps, technologies, and methods to create something new.
NHN: Which of your projects would you consider to be your favorites? (Pick a top three.)
SL: Train Wreck, Frequency, and Magic Kingdom Castles.
NHN: Which of your projects were the most time-consuming/challenging and why?
SL: I don’t see my art as challenging but [as] opportunities to create something different and exciting. Success follows when a project is approached with a positive viewpoint and an open mind.
NHN: What are some of your dream projects?
SL: My dream project is working with flat LED panels to create art within art on a canvas that is action/moving and brings art to life.
NHN: What serves as your inspiration on a day-to-day basis?
SL: Positivity, impacts I have with interactions with people. I have created custom pieces of artwork. And a person at work (I work Monday-Friday at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), they wanted some art for their children’s playroom. I created this centerpiece around some other acrylic pieces that complimented the room colors.
NHN: Future goals/plans?
SL: Create new artwork constantly that allows each piece to stay unique. I plan on being innovative with artwork I create in the future and stay ahead of trends.
