This school year has looked a bit different at Sun Blaze Elementary, yet our Stingrays are flourishing. During the last week of January, Sun Blaze joined many schools across the state of Florida to celebrate literacy week. We kicked off our week as Literacy Superheroes. Students engaged in reading activities that provided opportunities to strengthen our superpower of reading! One of our favorite activities for the week was the Vocabulary Parade. Stingray Nation rose to the challenge of turning a word into a costume for the event. Our hallways were filled with thought-provoking words such as “slumberous,” “monochromatic,” and “victorious,” just to mention a few.
Did you know that public speaking is one of the top three fears for many adults? Well, not for seven of our 5th grade students. These students participated in the 2021 Florida 4-H Oration Contest held in February. Students wrote and delivered a speech on the topic, “A time when volunteers made a difference.” The topic could not have been more timely for our student body and judges to hear. We would like to extend a special thank you to our judges: Aquanza Cadogan, founder of Well Said; Kevin Kendrick from the Kendrick Team at KW Realty; and Monique Rivers, guidance counselor from Walker Middle School. Our judges had the challenge of selecting our top three speakers: Bethany Nieves, Anna Lara Niclevisk, and Riley Sibley. We are so proud of all of those who participated.
