Orlando Story Club: Down to the Wire to Continue Its 2018 Season at The Abbey in Downtown Orlando

October 5, 2018 by Vanessa Poulson

Orlando Story Club, a local organization founded by storyteller and filmmaker Robin Cowie (The Blair Witch Project) to give anyone who wishes the chance to tell a personal story, returns with their October event. Themed “Down to the Wire,” the benefiting charity is the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. The event will feature judges awarding prizes for first-, second- and third-place winners.

Admission is $5 at the door with the option to donate additional funds to the charity. The event is being held at The Abbey, 100 South Eola Drive, Orlando, 32801 from 7-9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The Orlando Story Club is unique in the way that it allows people the chance to put their name in a hat, with selected individuals chosen at random having an opportunity to showcase their storytelling for the betterment of the local community. At each event, there is a different storyteller guest that follows a new theme. There is also plenty of food, drinks, and laughter to go around. These themes change with each event, thus allowing for new and intriguing stories to be told at every one. All proceeds raised each month support different Orlando philanthropic organizations. Orlando Story Club is hosted by Orlandoans Danielle Ziss and Bobby Wesley.

“I can speak personally, as I’ve shared a story before, that while it can be nerve-wracking at first, it’s really very fun and liberating to share a story, and then you get hooked,” said Ilene Lieber, Orlando Story Club’s media contact. “We have everything from veteran storytellers who attend each event to first-time storytellers as well!”

After the “Down to the Wire” event in October, the club will conclude the year with a special “Best Of” on Dec. 12. For more information on Orlando Story Club, event themes and benefiting organizations, visit www.orlandostoryclub.com, www.orlandoslice.com or www.facebook.com/orlandostoryclub.
