Nonahood Resident, Crew Member on a Pacific Cup Sail Boat Currently Racing to Hawaii

July 19, 2016 by Jason Diven

Summertime means a many different things to many different people in the Nonahood.  For Laureate Park Resident, Jonathan “Jon” Edelman, this summer means participating in a sailboat race for over 2,000 (2,070 nautical miles to be exact) miles from San Francisco, California to Kaneohe, Hawaii on the Island of Oahu.

The Pacific Cup, affectionately referred to as The “Fun Race to Hawaii,” started this year on July 11th and typically takes crews anywhere from eight to fourteen days to complete, depending on the Division Type.  The Pacific Cup has run every two years since it started on June 15, 1980.  The “Fun Race to Hawaii” runs every two years and has grown from 40 boats participating, to 64 boats, now in 2016.
