Celebrating traditions and a multicultural community was the theme last January 5th in Lake Nona Town Center. Nonahood Latino (NHL) decided to start off the Fiestas at Box Park event series with Visperas de Reyes.
The global holiday tradition of Three Kings (Los Tres Reyes Magos) is celebrated all around the world. The tradition is that the Three Kings came on the night of January 5th to give baby Jesus three gifts, one gift from each the kings. So, that night, parents have their kids take a shoebox filled with hay or grass and water for the camels and set it out for the Three Kings. The children around the world will receive three gifts.
United with Boxi Park of Tavistock Restaurant Collection, NHL took over the Lake Nona Town Center for a day of family fun! It’s very important to our team that all of our Fiestas in this event series are 100% family friendly.
This event was a preview of what the new Boxi Park venue has in store – many events are being planned and coming to the community! Opening very soon, Boxi Park will be filled with music, food, and drinks within a family atmosphere, right here in the heart of Lake Nona.
Vispera de Reyes started with a very full craft area where the children had an opportunity to decorate their shoeboxes which were donated by Novus shoe stores. There were face painters, breakdancers, a DJ, live music, the highly-anticipated camel rides, and so much more. The camels came from a farm that rescues them and gives them an amazing quality of life. The owner of the camels was very aware of the area where they were going to be set up, making sure they would only walk on grass, had shade, and had enough water to keep them hydrated throughout the day. The live music included three amazing musical acts, each one different from the other, keeping the crowd entertained throughout the day. The stage first hosted Pleneros, then went to holiday Spanish music, and ended with Gaby Caz covering amazing Spanish rock, leaving the entire crowd asking for more.
The event drew in an overwhelming amount of attendees and broke multiple sales records for the Town Center restaurants. We estimate that there were almost 4,000 attendees, showing the economic power the Latinos bring to Lake Nona. The venue was filled from before it began at 11 a.m. well past the ending of the last song at 7:00 p.m.
This is the reason Nonahood Latino was created, to make sure our growing community has fun events that still keep them close to home. Nona.media is excited to continue the Fiestas event series and are pleased to officially have the next one scheduled at the newly-opened Boxi Park on March 2! El Carnaval in Lake Nona will carry on one of our main goals for the new year of creating family events and we hope you will join us!!
