Nemours’ Dr Laura Chilcutt Joins Second Harvest Food Bank’s Board of Directors

September 18, 2023 by Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently welcomed Dr. Laura Chilcutt, M.D., J.D, from Nemours Children’s Health Orlando to its Board of Directors.

As the Medical Director of Medical-Social Impact, Dr. Chilcutt leverages her expertise as a physician and attorney to address the adverse effects of the social determinants of health on the wellbeing of patients and families under Nemours’ care – but her advocacy goes far beyond the hospital’s walls. In 2021, she launched a volunteer-led mobile clinic which travels the region providing free vaccines and preventive health screenings to uninsured children.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Chilcutt is passionate about teaching students and residents the importance of supporting the community. She does this through her mobile clinic and by serving as a policy advisor on the government relations team at Nemours, where residents receive first-hand experience with policy work and interacting with government officials. Dr. Chilcutt’s commitment to underserved communities began in college, and she hopes to increase her impact through her role on Second Harvest’s board.

“I’ve witnessed the lasting effects of the different social determinants of health – especially food insecurity,” said Dr. Chilcutt. “Being able to support Second Harvest and its network of partners makes me hopeful for the futures of those who are at risk of experiencing hunger every day.”

Chilcutt received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and sociology from Florida State University (FSU) in 2004, her law degree from FSU in 2008, and her medical degree from the University of Central Florida in 2019.
