Lake Nona, Florida-September 2017
Lake Nona local hospital Nemours is offering Texas families free access to its board certified pediatricians over a smartphone, tablet or the internet.
Nemours CareConnect has been providing live video visits to families in five states, starting in 2015. This service, though not typically available in Texas, is being offered temporarily in the state in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
The office of the Governor of Texas suspended statutes and rules to allow healthcare providers in good standing in another state to practice in Texas in order to assist with the disaster response.
Texas families will have access to Nemours CareConnect through the internet at www.NemoursCareConnect.com. If families still have a smartphone or tablet available, they can download the Nemours CareConnect app on Apple or Android app stores. The normal charge for the service will be waived in Texas when families enter the following coupon code: Harvey.
Nemours CareConnect pediatricians can help to treat children with a variety of conditions through the website and smartphone or tablet application. Newborns and kids with with a range of conditions, including vomiting and diarrhea, infected wounds and upper respiratory infections can interact with a physician online.
Nemours CareConnect is built on a platform designed by telehealth leader, American Well. The service launched in Florida in 2015. It later expanded to Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
“The technology of Nemours CareConnect lets us remotely bring board-certified pediatricians right into Texas, where families need us most,” said Carey Officer, administrator of telehealth for Nemours Children’s Health System. “Our entire team is passionate about helping children, especially those facing such a heartbreaking struggle. We are so thankful that the Governor’s decision allows Nemours play a part in helping families access the care they need right now.”
