Lake Nona resident Kyrie Dunphy is bringing fresh magic to readers with her new young adult fantasy novel, Zodiac: The Talismans Rising (Book 1 of the Zodiac series), releasing Feb. 6.

Inspired by Chinese zodiac mythology, the story follows young Empress Jade and her Twelve Zodiac Guardians – a diverse group of teens from across the empire of Sheng Xiao – as they race to claim powerful rising talismans after the theft of the legendary Yin Scroll awakens an ancient prophecy. Packed with thrilling quests across stunning lands, unbreakable friendships, slow-burn romance, and themes of leadership and found family, it’s an adventure that feels both epic and close to home.

A passionate storyteller, screenwriter and director, Kyrie has previously published works including the e-book anthology Fear the Lightning (2018) and the children’s book The Wolf in Sheep’s Avatar (2022), which was featured in Nonahood News. This marks her debut in YA epic fantasy, and she’s excited to share this new world with fellow Central Florida readers.
