Homes for All Generations

March 17, 2016 by Wendee Burnette

The home and neighborhood preferences and wish lists for any generation reflect what’s in demand in today’s housing market. Below are the top 8 community amenities that were listed for each generation.

Percentage of homebuyers surveyed by generation and each generations’ top 8 community amenities.

On the other end of the scale less than 5% of the survey-takers rated the following items as essential:

Gated to control access, public transit, clubhouse, infill, tennis courts, golf courses, baseball/soccer fields and day care centers. These amenities have very little effect on the generational buyer’s home-purchasing decisions.

According to the 2015 National Association of Realtor’s Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends report, Millennials place highest preference compared to other generations on convenience to job as well as affordability of homes. However, Generation Xers who likely have children who have reached school age place higher importance on the quality of school districts and convenience to schools. Older Boomers place higher priority on convenience to friends, family and health facilities.

Finally, 69% of all buyers say it’s the quality of the neighborhood that influenced their neighborhood choice. Rest assured today as you stroll along the walking trails, hit the gym, or picnic in the park because you made the right decision by choosing to call the sought-after lifestyle communities of Medical City/Lake Nona home.
