Lake Nona’s own William Felix, MD will kick off the new year in Mexico! As an event per diem medical director for the National Basketball Association, he will coordinate medical logistics for the 2017 NBA Global Games in Mexico City.
“I’m particularly excited about this year’s event, as it will be the first time the league will play two regular season games in a row in any city,” Dr. Felix said. “I’m very excited to be a part of it.” On January 12, 2017, the Phoenix Suns will face off against the Dallas Mavericks, followed by a same-day matchup between the Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers. The Suns and the San Antonio Spurs are then scheduled to take the court on January 14.
The 2017 games serve as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the NBA’s first game in Mexico. With these games included, NBA will have staged 24 games in Mexico since 1992, the most NBA games held in any country outside the United States and Canada. The NBA is committed to developing basketball at the grassroots level in Mexico through programs like Liga Telmex NBA, Jr. NBA and NBA3X.
