Best Friends in the Nonahood: Maya – the Pointer Who Whistles Like a Teapot!

June 19, 2025 by Patricia Reber Leave a Comment

Yes, you read it right!  Maya, a female German Shorthaired Pointer, whistles like a teapot when she’s at home and wants the attention of her PAW-RENTS. Now THAT’S talent!   German Shorthairs, a refined breed, are often referred to as “the perfect pointer.” When you see Maya’s look and her gait, you will agree that she is a perfect pointer.

Maya is a four-year old rescued beauty who makes herself known at all times. The neighbors hear her loud howling whenever Joshua and Caroline McMahon walk her down the street. She brings a smile to everyone in her path…and sometimes to those beyond! After all, she has a lot to say!

Joshua and Caroline were married in March. Joshua is a graphic designer from Lake Worth, and Caroline, from Boca Raton, is a nanny in LP. They met through mutual friends who invited them to a board game night – a great way to meet! Maya is their first fur baby together, but Maya doesn’t seem to be interested in their board games.

Maya is a regular at Pet Paradise day camp, where she has many friends. One of her friends is Grant, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, who happens to live in Maya’s neighborhood. The PAW-RENTS of both dogs did not know that the Ridgeback and the Pointer were acquainted until they walked by each other recently. They greeted each other warmly and the puzzled PAW-RENTS of both pooches figured out that the mutual connection is Pet Paradise. Was Maya pointing Grant toward her house for their own board game night?
