With the 2020 football season in full swing finally, the Lions football team has been hard at work preparing for the season. Practices started on Aug. 31, and the Lions hit the ground running. Even with battling the Florida weather, the team has been working hard on installing plays, getting back into the routine of practicing, and making sure that our conditioning is back on par. Our first game was on Sept. 17, when the Lions traveled to take on the Cypress Creek Bears and defeated them.

After that, the team hosted their first home game of the season against University High School on Sept. 25, beating University. On Oct. 2, Jones High School rolled into the Lions’ den in the team’s second home game of the season. Although the Lions gave everything they had, unfortunately, they suffered their first loss of the season to Jones High. On Oct. 9, Winter Park High School came to Nemour’s Stadium to take on our Lions. After keeping the game close for 2½ quarters, the Wildcats took a lead and ended up beating our team.

On Oct. 16, the Lions were supposed to play Celebration High School; however, after some of the members of the Celebration High School tested positive for COVID-19, the game was cancelled. But thanks to the hard work of our head coach, athletic director, and administration team, we were able to secure a game that night against St. Cloud High School. After a long and tough battle through the game, our Lions came out victorious, moving our record to 3-2 for the year. The game that was scheduled for Oct. 23 against Freedom High School got cancelled as well due to some of their members testing positive. Our team treated this week as a bye week and worked on getting better and preparing for Osceola High School the following week.

On Oct. 29, the Kowboys from Osceola High rolled into the Lions’ den for some Friday night lights action in the last home game of the regular season. After having a lead for the first two quarters in a tough back-and-forth game, the Lions unfortunately lost the lead and the game. On Oct. 6, the Lions travelled to East River High School to take on the Falcons in the Battle of the Beachline. The Lions came out of the game victorious and retained the surfboard!

For the playoff series, the Lions will first have a bye week and will face Palmetto on Nov. 20.
