Next Generation STEAM Learning Academy for Our Youngest Entrepreneurs!

It’s never too early to get children excited about careers in STEAM. Laureate Park is about to be home to one of the most innovative early education academies in the United States. Designed for the 21st century learner and inspired by world renowned educational approaches, such as Reggio Emilia, Project Based Learning, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), it is the place where teachers facilitate learning, value the child, and where all adults are partners in the power of collaborative learning. Amazing Explorers Academy encourages young children to explore their environment and express their intellectual and cognitive understanding of diverse subjects through many “languages” – from verbal communication to artistic interpretation to software coding. With unique activities that engage and immerse the children in real-world scenarios that promote curiosity, inquiry and excitement, Amazing Explorers enables its students to solve problems, work together and build confidence to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Divergent Thinking + Fun + Awesome Ideas = Explorer Tank!

Geared to allow its students to think outside the box, explore and innovate while learning about what it takes to launch a new product, Explorer Tank is Amazing Explorers’ version of Shark Tank – with a kid twist. Hosted every six months, teams of future innovators collaborate to invent unique products that they research and then pitch to a panel of judges comprised of teachers and local business leaders. Children, ages 4-9 years old, work in teams of 4-5 to design a product, develop the business plan, and create a prototype. Products ranging from an ice cream cannon (yum!), a mystery box that makes you happy, special color pens, and a water-resistant laptop have been presented, but don’t think the kids are let off easy. The panel asks questions around price points, production capacity, and time to market… exposing the children to the economics and process behind taking a great idea to the marketplace. The judges then share their own experiences managing successful businesses. Winners are awarded AEA dollars, the academy’s currency, which can be exchanged for goodies, craft supplies, equipment rental for experiments, or special incentives such as a pizza party!
