When the final bell of the school year rings, children run home, eagerly anticipating the freedom of summer. A week (sometimes even days) later, parents hear the dreaded two-word phrase: “I’m bored.”
Parents need not fear as the Lake Nona YMCA is making sure that children have their best summer ever thanks to a variety of programs and activities that stimulate both mind and body.
Summer camp at the Lake Nona Y provides kids with adventure, healthy fun, personal growth and friendships that can take a so-so summer and turn it into a memory that lasts a lifetime. Lake Nona YMCA’s camps provide a welcoming environment for kids where they can belong, build relationships, develop character and discover their potential. From weekly theme camps, specialty camps and leadership-in-training camps, the Y has something for everyone.
Since summer is synonymous with swim season, the Y encourages families to explore the benefits of swimming while also keeping safety top of mind. The Lake Nona YMCA offers swim lessons for infants all the way up through teens and adults. Our summer swim lessons run from June through August, with a variety of days and times available.
Sports have always been a key component of the YMCA. It’s important to keep kids active and engaged all summer while, of course, still having fun in the process. The Lake Nona Y offers summer youth basketball and cheering for preschool age through high school. Children will learn the fundamental skills of the game while making friends and learning teamwork and good sportsmanship.
