Welcome to fall, y’all!
I know, I know … the weather hasn’t changed, and we’re still spending our weekends poolside. So how will we know it’s fall in Florida? When Sam’s Club debuts their Christmas décor. (Duh.) The Christmas creep is coming, which means fall has arrived in Orlando. If we’re honest, though, it will still be months before we can rock true fall fashion without breaking a sweat. So here are five of the hottest trends this season that you can start rocking now, even in Orlando’s perpetual summer sun.
1. Denim Everything
Denim is having a major moment this fall, but it’s not just about jeans. Think denim skirts, dresses, jackets and even bags and shoes. The beauty of denim is its versatility – it’s the perfect transition fabric. Pair a lightweight denim dress with sandals now, and when the temperatures finally drop, just add a shacket (which is a sweater-meets-jacket situation). Or you can go all in and opt for a head-to-toe denim look, which I am totally in favor of this season.
2. Leopard Print
Has there ever been a more polarizing print than leopard? I get mixed feelings. Animal prints like leopard can easily tip from classy to crazy, but with the right approach, you can achieve a sophisticated look. Stick to leopard in neutral tones and use it sparingly to keep things elegant. This season, leopard print is back in bold pieces like romantic skirts and tailored jackets. For now, consider a satin skirt or leopard accessories like scarves or bags. Animal print can also function as a neutral, so if you’re feeling daring, try pairing it with unexpected elements like stripes or tweed when the weather cools down.
3. Full Skirts
Full skirts are back in a big way, bringing a touch of retro flair to your wardrobe. They’re perfect for the current weather – light, flowy and forgiving. Opt for a midi or knee-length full skirt in a lightweight fabric and pair it with a simple tank or tee. As fall rolls in, you can transition this look with the addition of tights or boots. Full skirts also offer a flattering silhouette that suits all body types, making them a great staple for every season.
4. Lady-Like Shoes
The most femme shoes this season are, in fact, flats. (And I’m not complaining.) Mary Janes and ballet flats are THE stars of the fall 2024 lineup. These lady-like shoes add a touch of elegance to any outfit. And the best part? They’re comfortable enough for all-day wear. Pair them with jeans, skirts or even shorts for a chic yet effortless look. I am personally loving these reimagined in a bold metallic for a tougher edge to the sweet silhouette. Whether you go for a classic black or experiment with colors and patterns, these shoes are sure to become a comfy staple in your wardrobe this fall and winter.
5. Seeing Red
Radiant red and berry tones are key colors for the season. We’ll see this staple appear in both vibrant flashes and total looks. If you want to embrace this trend, incorporate red into your daytime outfits with brick-red tanks, tomato-red tops, or even a bold, wide-leg pant. You can experiment with layering different shades of red for a monochromatic statement-making look. Or complete any basic jeans and tee ’fit with accessories like a red bag or shiny ruby flats.
Guys, did you notice? We made it through a whole fall-style column without mentioning scarves, sweater vests or even pumpkin spice lattes. I’m so proud of us. Even us Floridians can partake in fall fashion feels by incorporating these trends in hot weather ways. Stay cool, stay stylish, and I’ll see ya at Sam’s soon. (Ya know…before all the good wrapping paper is gone.)
