Nona Basketball Academy is coming to the new Lake Nona Sports Club.
The first open gym for Nona Basketball Academy will be held at Innovation Middle School on July 18 for boys and girls ranging from the third grade to those in varsity teams in high school.
The free open gym will host organized games and training sessions split by age groups. From 9-11 a.m., third, fourth, and fifth graders can participate in specified training. From noon to 2 p.m., sixth, seventh, and eighth grade can train, and from 3-5 p.m., ninth, 10th, and 11th graders can train.
Participants at this free open gym will receive a free Nona Basketball Academy t-shirt; just register at nonabasketball.com. There will be more free open gyms throughout various Lake Nona gyms.
The Nona Basketball Academy will also offer summer camps at Innovation Middle School from July 20-23. Third graders to high schoolers will be able to attend the basketball camp where games, competitions, skills training, and learning moments will take place for three hours for four days. Registering for the first week of the camp costs $129; for a two-week camp, participants will pay $249.
Part of the basketball camp will include certain training sessions by elite NBA G-League player and trainer Shawn Faust. The famous trainer is also a member of the Harlem Globetrotters and Washington Generals and has played professional basketball in Switzerland, France, and Brazil.
Faust also has his own basketball training and coaching program called iHandle Basketball, where he focuses on skills and game enhancement training. Faust is the player development coach and camp director for the NBA China Camps and EastStar China and Taiwan, according to the iHandle Basketball website.
The Lake Nona Sports Club is family owned and operated and will be built on the same values and foundation as Nona Soccer Academy. Coach Fabio Silva, founder and CEO of Nona Soccer Academy, is partnering with three other Central Florida youth basketball clubs, led by Coach Oskar Kristjansson, Coach Victor Rodriguez, and Coach Ryan Knuppel.
“Our community, nation, and world are going through the hardest and most challenging times, but Nona Soccer Academy and Nona Soccer Cares have been there for our athletes and community and will continue to do so,” stated a post made by Nona Basketball on June 26.
