Lake Nona Families, Your Request, & Dedication

November 19, 2015 by Jason Diven

November 18th residents of Lake Nona around EaglEagle Creek Dedicatione Creek and Laureate Park celebrated the opening of Eagle Creek Elementary School with a dedication ceremony.  Eager attendees entered the cafetorium by walking down a red carpet to songs being performed by the Lake Nona High School Orchestra.

Principal, Robert McCloe led the ceremony and introduced Orange County Public Schools Dignitaries including: School Board Chairman – Bill Sublette, Superintendent of Schools – Barbra Jenkins, District 2 School Board Member – Daryl Flynn, Area Superintendent – Dr. Maria Vazquez, Executive Area Director – Dr. Wesley “Todd” Trimble, and Assistant Principal Kimberly Elkins-Wheeler. Some of the distinguished guests provided their own personal words of wisdom and message to the, students, parents, teachers, and staff.  The most entertaining of them, Daryl Flynn had her own request to take a selfie with all who attended, including one specifically with the approximate 130 Student Leaders.

A key highlight of the ceremony included a gift given by Superintendent Jenkins, a framed art piece of a soaring eagle that had a message of motivation.  Additionally, students from each grade, and some school clubs presented items that made up a time capsule that would soon be placed in the ground somewhere on the school’s property.  The time capsule will be dug up, and become the centerpiece of a presentation on the school’s 20th anniversary.  The following items made up the time capsule:

Kindergarten: Quilt of Each Classes Picture

First Grade: A Picture of All First Graders

Second Grade: A Fun Run T-Shirt Signed by All Second Graders

Third Grade: A Uniform Shirt Signed by All Third Graders and a Picture of All Third Graders

Fourth Grade: A Map of Lake Nona Signed by All Fourth Graders

Fifth Grade: A Book “All About the Life of a Fifth Grader at Eagle Creek Elementary”

Girls on the Run: A Team Photo

K-Kids Club: A List of Members

Safety Patrols: Pictures and List of Patrols

At the conclusion of the event there was a ribbon cutting and the Chorus sang the school song.  Afterwards, parents and presenters were invited for light refreshments and cake, at which point they had an opportunity to mingle and tour the media center.
