Nemours Children’s Hospital has been named a national Top Children’s Hospital by the Leapfrog Group for the third time in its seven years of operation. Nemours is one of only 10 children’s hospitals to make the prestigious list of 120 hospitals in 28 states.
The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is one of the most respected honors hospitals can receive in the country. The highest performing hospitals are recognized annually, and less than six percent of eligible facilities receive this distinction. To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank in the top 10% among peers in the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the nation’s gold standard in evaluating hospital performance on quality, safety and resource use, using national performance measures to evaluate individual facilities. The award is not given to a set number of hospitals, but rather to all teaching, general, rural and children’s hospitals that meet the rigorous standards defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
Within the children’s hospital category, performance is evaluated across many areas of hospital care to establish qualifications for the award. Some of the areas on which the hospitals are evaluated include medication safety, inpatient care management, maternity care, pediatric care, inpatient surgery, and infection rates. Nemours Children’s Hospital is one of three children’s hospitals in Florida to receive this award, accompanied by Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville. Nemours is also among 20 other Florida hospitals to receive the 2019 award.
“Nemours is particularly proud of this prestigious acknowledgment,” said R. Lawrence Moss, M.D., president and CEO of Nemours Children’s Health System. “It exemplifies our unwavering commitment to high-quality, safe care for children. This achievement recognizes the passion and dedication of our committed team of doctors, nurses, health professionals, administrators, and support staff.”
“This recognition reflects our commitment to patient safety and excellence of care,” said Randy Hartley, COO at Nemours Children’s Hospital. Awards were presented at the Leapfrog Group’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 17.
“We are pleased to recognize Nemours Children’s Hospital as a 2019 Leapfrog Top Hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and to the Orlando community. We congratulate the board, staff and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible and know they share pride in this achievement.”
