This Friday, July 20 from 5-9 p.m., the Lake Nona Town Center will be hosting an event called the Lake Nona Community Wellbeing Event Featuring Dr. Deepak Chopra. A health and wellness app, known as JIYO will be launched. It is a family-friendly event that is open to the public for free.

The app’s creator, Dr. Chopra, based his development on six pillars which are “nourish, move, love, meditate, sleep, and grow.” At the event, there will be activities set up for each pillar. For example under “nourish,” there will be a tent set up with plates for children to decorate. It will show them the recommended amount of food from different food groups they should be consuming. Dr. Chopra will also be leading a guided meditation at the end of the night.

Another special guest, besides Dr. Chopra himself, will be Eddie Stern who is Co-founder of Ashtanga Yoga New York, Brooklyn Yoga Club, Broome Street Temple, and Namarupa Magazine. Baba Brinkman will also be making an appearance. He is a New York-based rap artist and playwright.

There will also be food trucks. The current listing includes Saigon Sizzle, Tamale Co., The Local Chef, Peru Power, Serenitea and Soothers, and Kefta Moroccan.

Lake Nona will be the 2nd “JIYO Smart City” in the nation after Aspen, Colorado. Shannon Corrigan from Tavistock Development said the app is a user-friendly interactive platform for residents to connect with each other. JIYO is free to download to the public, but what is so special about this one is that it will be tailored to Lake Nona community members. Once the user downloads the app, they can type in their zip code to get started.

Neighbors can share healthy lifestyle content with each other. For example, if someone made a smoothie, they could take a picture and instantly share it with their fellow residents. The app also helps to instill great meditation and sleep habits. USTA, among other partners, will also be sharing content on the app that is more relatable to the residents from a health perspective.

Overall, Corrigan said JIYO helps Lake Nona to stay on track in its art of innovation. People will reach their sense of well-being even more and they will continue to do so by obtaining sustainable and positive living habits through this type of technology.

The exact location of the event is: Lake Nona Town Center, 6900 Tavistock Lakes Blvd, Orlando, FL 32827

A press release by Tavistock Development stated the following in regards to parking and transportation matters: “Parking will be available along Tavistock Lakes Boulevard, across the street from Lake Nona Town Center. Attendants will be on-site to assist with parking and shuttles will be available for guests needing assistance.”
