Founded by a partnership between the original creator of Orlando’s Yum Yum Asia Cafe Steve Kuo and Chef Wei Hao Chen – with 15 years of national experience in the sushi restaurant business, Foodoko is bringing the rich cultural traditions and experiences of Japanese and Asian cuisine to customers in Lake Nona. Local food writer Ricky Ly and Orlando certified public accountant May Wong are also partners in this new venture. All of the founders live in Lake Nona, as well.
Foodoko, the new Asian food concept is opening up inside the cafeteria of the brand new Lake Nona Veteran Affairs Medical Center Hospital, a $600 million, 1.2 million square foot medical facility. It is open to the public, on weekdays from Monday through Friday, 10:30am – 4pm.
Sushi burritos and poke bowl shops have been popping up all around the country and now, Foodoko is the first to bring these delicious concepts to Orlando’s Lake Nona area with plans to expand in the next few years to other hospitals, airport facilities, and business centers.
“Sushi burritos are hand held, easy to eat, and can be quite healthy. There’s a reason why the Japanese have some of the longest living people on the planet – this trifecta of fresh fish, rice, and seaweed are very healthy and nutritious,” said co-founder Steve Kuo. “We hope to bring this added value to our customers at the Lake Nona VA Medical Center.”
Foodoko will serve up made to order and customizable sushi burritos, sushi poke rice bowls, and sushi rolls to cater to guests’ own unique tastes or select from one of our own master chef’s sushi recommendations. Catering options are also available.
Some of Foodoko’s menu items include the Sushi Burrito, Chickenito sushi burrito, and the vegetarian Veggirito. For poke lovers, there is the Foodoko Sunshine poke bowl, a tuna and salmon bowl topped with avocado, cucumber, edamame, masago & sesame seeds, in addition to traditional and new sushi rolls.
FOODoko is a play on the Japanese word “fudokoto” meaning “food court”. The founders hope to bring the accessibility and convenience of delightful cuisine found at food courts from around Japan and the Pacific to our customers.
