We are proud to welcome Florida Fan Cup to Lake Nona! One major commitment Nona Soccer Academy has for the community is to put Lake Nona, once and for all, in the soccer market on both a local and global scale. At Nona Soccer Academy, our mission is to pave the way for Lake Nona to be a strong market leader, creating a soccer destination in Central Florida for all ages and all levels of play for soccer development, competitive soccer, AND opportunities for soccer fan spectating!
As Lake Nona has thoroughly embraced the youth soccer movement in such a short period of time, it’s no question soccer is THE sport of our community. The leadership at Florida Cup recognized this. Therefore, Florida Fan Cup will be the first of many major soccer events coming to Lake Nona through Nona Soccer Academy.
Before we talk about Florida Fan Cup, let me educate you on Florida Cup. Florida Cup is a professional international soccer tournament with teams from South America, Central America and Europe. Florida Cup is considered one of the most important professional preseason tournaments in South America!
In 2019, Florida Cup brought in Flamengo, the current Brazilian National Champions, Copa Libertadores Champions (the South American equivalent to the European Champions League), and Ajax, from Holland, a semifinalist of the European Champions League.
This year, the Florida Cup will be hosted here at Orlando City Stadium with two major Brazilian powerhouses, Corinthians and Palmeiras. These rivals share five of the last six Brazilian championships! Atlético Nacional from Colombia, champions of Copa Libertadores in 2016, will also be present, and then representing the MLS and this growing sport in the U.S., New York City FC. These teams will face each other at Orlando City Stadium on Jan. 15, Nona Soccer Academy Night, and on Jan. 18.
Back to what is coming to Lake Nona! The Florida Fan Cup, an amazing soccer showcase with teams entered from Brazil, Colombia, and the U.S., play against each other on a fun and competitive field of over 38 competitions. Former professional players are confirmed for these games that will be played right here at Heroes Park, the home of Nona Soccer Academy. This will be a great opportunity for the public to come out and enjoy high-level soccer right here in our backyard.
At Heroes Park during the Florida Cup Week, there will be a goalkeeper clinic open to ALL youth goalkeepers in Central Florida. A legendary Brazilian goalkeeper is scheduled to lead the clinic.
We are looking forward to our community coming together at Heroes Park and bringing Lake Nona families into the city for the games. This week of soccer will be a fun way to start 2020!
