Best Friends in the Nonahood: Love at First Sight

April 4, 2022 by Patricia Reber

Photos Courtesy of Susan Sutherland

After 26 years of a pooch-less household, Susan’s friend sent her a picture of a 16-month-old  Goldendoodle who needed a new home. Whoah! IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT! It was time! Susan  Sutherland continues to work currently at her home office, and Dennis Knapp is retired – so they had lots of love to give to their new addition. But first, they had to change the pooch’s name from Twyla to  Charlie and then get her home from upstate New York.

Dennis flew to Albany in 6-degree weather, greeted Charlie as if they were long lost friends, and  returned 1,230 miles back to sunny Orlando! Now, that is definitely love!

Dennis is an amazing cook and explains every ingredient to Charlie as he prepares meals. He refers to  Charlie as his sous chef. Dennis and Susan laugh each and every day with Charlie’s antics. She plays  with every single toy she owns every day and then puts each one back in her basket before she gets  another toy to play with. Very neat, Charlie!

As you can see from the photo, it is hard to know if it is Dennis giving Charlie a snack or if Charlie just shares treats with Dennis. NO crate for Charlie as she is definitely Dennis’ girl. Sorry, Susan!

Welcome to the neighborhood, Charlie!
