AdventHealth is hosting its first-ever virtual Pink on Parade to celebrate women’s breast cancer awareness on Oct. 11.
Runners, walkers, and joggers can register for the virtual 5K online for $20 and receive a virtual race packet, which includes a digital race bib, certificate of completion, start/finish and mile marker signs, a training guide, sponsor discounts and coupons, access to AdventHealth’s music playlist, and race maps.
Those looking to donate more money toward breast cancer can purchase a premium race registration, which includes the basic registration items as well as a physical race packet, branded Pink on Parade 5K race bib, medal, and hat, and a customizable virtual race map for $40. Be sure to order your premium race package before Oct. 5.
The AdventHealth community has supported survivors and women currently going through breast cancer over the past 10 years, raising more than $900,000 that has gone toward helping patients, innovative research, diagnostic tests, and wellness plans.
Prior to the pandemic, the race was scheduled for Oct. 17 and would have been held in Celebration. In 2019, the Pink on Parade raised over $128,500 for the October race, according to AdventHealth.
Breast cancer is the leading cancer diagnosis for females in the U.S., and cancer was the second-leading cause of death after heart disease in the U.S. in 2017, the latest year of data available from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Those being treated for breast cancer, or any cancer in general, are at a higher risk for contracting a severe case of COVID-19, as stated on BreastCancer.org.
The global pandemic has also forced medical societies to form a COVID-19 Pandemic Breast Cancer Consortium’s Considerations for Re-Entry document, in which the American College of Surgeons’ many members have written out how to care for breast cancer patients during this health crisis.
