With any area that experiences rapid growth, the demand for new and upgraded educational facilities increases. With the addition of Eagle Creek Elementary School in 2015, the recent construction announcements of a new Middle School to relieve Lake Nona Middle School and new elementary school in Laureate Park, residents of Lake Nona and the surrounding areas, are pretty much aware of this by now. But did you know that Orange County Public Schools is among one of the most active school boards in the nation when it comes to the construction of new aIn a letter from OCPS District 2 School Board Member, Daryl Flynn, she indicates, “This year, eight new OCPS schools will open that include two elementary schools, one K-8 and five renovations or replacements of existing facilities.”
She credits the 1/2 cent sales tax Orange County tax payers voted for as to the ability to fund all of these new facilities. Further stating, “In addition to providing state-of-the-art facilities for our students, this program is providing over 19,000 jobs. The schools for 2016 and 2017 come in at a cost of $613.5 million.”
