SUMMARY:Don't Curb It...S.W.A.P. It!
DESCRIPTION:“The City of St. Cloud’s Parks & Recreation department will be hosting the annual Don’t Curb It…S.W.A.P. It! event (aka Tree SWAP). This is where the St. Cloud Tree Advisory Committee – S.W.A.P. (St. Cloud’s Winning Arbor Patrol) team encourages residents to recycle their Christmas tree towards an investment in our continued efforts to restore the Urban Forest. Instead of tossing an old Christmas tree to the curb the S.W.A.P. team offers a “tree-rific” opportunity to swap it for a containerized tree or palm that best suits their needs. This is free event to help reduce people tossing trees to the curb and great way to get more trees planted in our community. The trees are chipped into mulch and are also given away for free at the event it’s a win-win-win situation. If you do not have an old Christmas tree you can still stop by to get a free tree. \n\nTree availability will be based on first come first serve. Please have any live Christmas trees be free of any decorations before dropping them off.” \nAttached is the flyer with all the details such as time and place. If you have any further questions\, comments\, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:The Great Pumpkin Smash - St Cloud
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Due to weather\, event is happening today at 6pm \n  \nInstead of letting your old pumpkin haunt the landfill\, have a fun & free time of breaking it down in creative ways in order to compost it! \nDid you know that according to the US Department of Agriculture\, over 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins are produced annually in our country. We love a jack-o-lantern as much as anybody else but once Halloween is over\, it tends to get moldy and goes straight into the trash. It does not just stop there\, these pumpkins begin to haunt landfills by emitting methane\, one of the catastrophic greenhouse gasses that furthers our current climate crisis. This is why The City of St. Cloud’s Parks & Recreation Department is starting an annual event called The Great Pumpkin Smash! A simple 2-hour event at Centennial Park the following Friday evening after Halloween where anybody and everybody is invited to come turn their old pumpkins into a green great time. Why trash a pumpkin when you can smash it!? We will have several methods for attendees to “smash” their pumpkins and then afterwards\, we will turn the otherwise methane producing waste into a hearty and helpful compost. We will also be collecting leftover Halloween candy so we can send Treats for our Troops.

SUMMARY:Orange County Commission Redistricting Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Every 10 years the Florida Constitution and the Orange County Charter calls for a reconfiguration of political boundaries. As the latest census was completed by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2020\, Orange County must complete its decennial redistricting process by March 2022.\nThe Mission\nThe goal of redistricting is to readjust the population between commission districts so that no Orange County Commissioner is representing substantially more individual residents than the other commissioners. Redistricting is accomplished by adjusting the boundaries of the County’s six commission districts to account for population growth. Decennial redistricting occurs every 10 years and is based on the population data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent decennial census (2020). \nThe Process\nOrange County has already formed a Redistricting Project Team\, which consists of personnel from the Neighborhood Services Division\, the County Attorney’s Office\, Fiscal and Operational Support Division (PEDS)\, Communications Division\, and the Supervisor of Elections Office. Ongoing activities include internal coordination meetings\, vetting software programs to analyze the Census data\, and discussions with stakeholder organizations. \nThe Mayor and each County Commissioner has appointed residents to an Advisory Committee for Redistricting (ACR). The ACR is charged with reviewing the decennial census data\, as well as proposing and analyzing maps reflecting various possibilities for adjustments to the commission district boundaries that are compliant with the redistricting criteria. The ACR will then recommend maps reflecting proposed commission district boundary adjustments to the Board of County Commissioners for their consideration and eventual adoption. \nResident Participation\nIn-Person\nThe districts will be set for the next ten years\, so resident engagement is critical. We encourage Orange County residents to attend the redistricting meetings to voice their opinions about how the lines are drawn. Individuals who are attending the Redistricting Committee meetings in person will be able to submit physical public comment cards that will be supplied by the staff on-site. \nAttend a Meeting \nVirtual\nResidents that are not able to attend a redistricting meeting in person can submit public comments electronically. Residents wishing to submit public comments electronically must fill out this form. \nThe deadline for submitting electronic public comment is 11:59 p.m. (EST/EDT) the day prior to the Redistricting Committee meeting at which you would like to have your electronic public comment submitted. If your public comment was submitted on time\, then your name and the brief topic that you provided through the form will be read as part of the “public comment” portion of the Redistricting Committee’s agenda. Your public comment will additionally be added to the meeting record and provided to the members of the Redistricting Committee for their review and consideration. Please note that the full contents of your public comment will not be read at the Redistricting Committee meeting. \nSubmit Electronic Public Comment \nCreate Your Own Map\nResidents can participate in the redistricting process by drawing their own maps of the County’s commission districts for advisory board consideration. Maptitude is an interactive online tool that will help residents visualize district boundaries\, population size\, and census-tract data. \nView our step-by-step Maptitude User Guide: \n\nMaptitude User Guide (English)\nMaptitude User Guide (Spanish)\n\nDraw Your Map \nThe Results\nBy March 2022\, the Board of County Commissioners will have selected a modified version of the Advisory Committee-proposed map. It will be effective for elections in 2022. \nFor historical purposes\, view the 2011 Redistricting information. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact Us \n\n\n\n\n\nOrange County Neighborhood Services Division\nPost Office Box 1393\nOrlando\, FL 32802-1393 \nEmail: Redistricting@ocfl.net\nPhone: (407) 836-5606 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n Like this:Like Loading...
